The Ropeworks — artist live/work lofts in New Bedford

People

The Ropeworks was founded with the idea that live/work space within a community of artists promotes innovation and creativity, brings new life and entrepreneurship to an old, newly-renovated textile mill building, and enhances the quality of life regionally. These condominium units will be held permanently by visual artists, designers, and artisans.
Information on purchasing the remaining unit is at www.123sawtooth.com

Abstracted figuration — paintings and drawings
"My interest is to take a fresh look at figurative painting, working on the borderline between abstraction and figuration. I use meaningless (non-descriptive, unplanned) marks to suggest figures on the surface of non-descriptive colour, with space appearing as an accidental 'depth' rather than as a result of perspectival devices."
Cynthia Guild (unit 9)
Media
"My most satisfying paintings come out of a struggle between freedom and control - between creation and destruction in that imagery is both adhered to and departed from."
John Stone (unit 9)

E. J. Jennings (unit 10)

Joan Potkay (unit 10)
Landscapes — paintings and monotypes
"In my paintings, I’m trying to capture the physicality of nature. Nature is a vortex for me. Its power and scale pulling me into a point of absorption and meditation, a complete immersion into a cycle of the sublime to the tumultuous."
